About Natanael Ferreira

Born in Brazil, Natanael Ferreira is a violist whose early musical foundation began with the piano, but it was the viola that ultimately captured his heart. He honed his craft at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, earning both his Bachelor’s and Soloist Master’s degrees under the mentorship of Miguel da Silva—an enduring relationship that continues to inspire his artistry. His chamber music studies with Gábor Takács further enriched his musicianship, paving the way for a flourishing international career across Europe.
Currently immersed in the creative ambiance of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel as its Artist in Residence, Natanael collaborates with top-tier musicians and orchestras, effortlessly blending versatility with sensitivity in every performance. His solo engagements include acclaimed performances of Berlioz’s Harold in Italy with the Brussels Philharmonic, Schnittke’s Viola Concerto in Geneva, and a standout concerto for string quartet and orchestra with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, where he distinguished himself as the soloist within the string quartet. As a devoted chamber musician, he regularly partners with luminaries such as Miguel da Silva, Augustin Dumay, Gary Hoffman, and Frank Braley, exploring a broad and varied repertoire. His forthcoming album—featuring the piano quartets of Fauré and Enescu in collaboration with Corina Belcea—underscores his commitment to both tradition and innovation.
Natanael is also a passionate conductor, bringing the same dedication and musical sensitivity to the podium as he does to his viola playing.
He performs on a viola generously loaned by a private foundation and benefits from the support of the Académie Musicale de Villecroze. His dedication to the art form is also evident in his festival appearances; he has been a member of the Verbier Festival since 2016, performing with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra under renowned conductors such as Gábor Takács, Sir Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, and Mikhaïl Pletnev. More recently, he has joined the Utopia Orchestra under the baton of Teodor Currentzis, touring and recording across Europe.
Whether on an intimate chamber stage, a grand solo platform, or standing before an orchestra, Natanael’s dynamic presence and heartfelt artistry ignite every performance, transforming each concert into an exhilarating and unforgettable musical journey.
